Strain Guage negative?
In school, we did a pressurisation test on a built to scale fuselage, with strain gauges placed vertically and longitudinally. However, it was noticed that from 3 to 6 Pa, the strain gauge placed vertically next to a window registered negetive values. Which are not supposed to be the case, since the fuselage is supposed to expand.
Other values were positive.
Why?
This is one of those cases that is seen in industry more often than we would like. A negative reading means that the gauge is registering compression when tension was expected. Once you have assured yourself that the test setup is correct my advice is to believe the instrumentation.
