Some Fundamentals of the DIY Wind Alternator | Alternator Wind Power
Solar power and alternative energy are growing fast with the rise in energy prices. One of the fastest of the alternative energy groups is wind power and the DIY wind alternator (do it yourself wind alternator). Let me try explain the simple components of alternator wind power.
The main thing that you need to understand about a wind turbine is that it is going to take the free source of power (wind) and change that into something that we can use which is electricity.
How do we get wind? The sun is going to heat different surfaces and a variety of differnet rates, and as we all know hot air rises and the cooler air wants to rush in to fill the gap that the hot air had. When his happens we have the process of wind. What we will do with the diy wind alternator is position it so it catches the wind and provides us with energy. And the best part is it is free.
What I didn't realize is that there are home solar energy kits that will show you exactly how to make these wind turbines. One that I saw that was reviewed and rated the best is the Earth4Energy kit. This had the highest rating of all the solar energy kits that were rated. So if you are thinking of making an alternator wind power turbine, then I would suggest that you might want to review Earth 4 Energy.
The blades are the main part of the alternator wind power turbine. When you have the wind turbine horizontal there are usually 3 blades and they are all concave. They are made of PVC, fiberglass or sometimes wood. These blades need to be balanced in order for the wind turbine to spin efficently.
These blades are then connected to the alternator assembly. The alternator rotor is connected to the blades to catch the wind and spin the rotor. On the end of the rotor is a magnet alternator assembly. As it spins it creates a magnetic field. As this spinning is happening within the magnetic field there are wires within the alternator assembly and this is what creates the electricity. When the magnet spins is creates the electricity that we need to store for future use.
The wind turbine usually sits on top of a pole. It is not stationary either. It will sit on top of a bearing assembly which will allow the wind turbine to spin freely. On the end of the turbine is a tail.
This tail (also called a boom or vane) helps to point the alternator wind power turbin into the wind. It really looks like the tail of an airplane. Pointing it at the wind will allow the blades to spin effortlessly and thus create the power that we need.
That is the basics of the alternator wind powered turbine. There are some other components that are needed to. The Earth4Energy review explains this and all the other components in great detail. It is well worth learning more if you are thinking about building a DIY wind alternator system.
I see a helicopter flying overhead resembling a MH-53 Pave Low I thought they were retired?
It is a very large craft with the usual top rotor, tail rotor design and it the sound is delayed so I'm looking for where the chopper is and I look to behind where it actually is.Is there any other helicopter operated by the U.S. that matches this description?
There is the CH-53 Super Stallion operated by the Marine Corps and Navy that is a similar design to the MH-53 Pave Low.
