How Do I Pick A Detroit Civil Rights Lawyer?

Individuals are protected from the state through a class of rights called civil rights. Civil rights include protection from discrimination, the right to physical safety, and the rights of the accused. Detroit, Michigan has a rich history of some significant Detroit civil rights attorney and the involvement in civil rights movements dating back to the 1920s.

Although there have been significant civil rights cases in Detroit’s past, there is still a battle waging on. Some of the issues still plaguing some of Detroit’s residents include discrimination against race, religion, disability, age, and sex. Read on to find a few tips that might help you in your search for a Detroit civil rights attorney, should you ever need one.

You can save a lot of time and hassle by simply doing a bit of research on Detroit discrimination laws before contacting any lawyers. Knowing exactly what your rights are could save you a lot of discussion time with your lawyer, which could make your attorney's fees even more costly.

First, you want to find a handful of lawyers that might fit your needs. This can be done through internet searches, recommendations from friends and family, and your local phone book. Once you have identified these lawyers you will need to make a list of questions to ask over the phone or in person.

For example: Does the firm offer a free consultation? How long is the consultation appointment? Is the fee negotiable? Has the attorney handled a similar case? Can the attorney provide references from other clients? Has the attorney or firm ever been under investigation? How long has the attorney practiced law? How heavy is the attorney's current caseload? What should you bring to the consultation meeting? Will the attorney work on your case or will others in his office?

If you choose to have a phone interview and wish to engage an attorney’s services, it is recommended that you have a face to face meeting before making any commitments. You want to make sure that you are 100% confident with confiding in your attorney, and the best way to gauge a person’s trustworthiness is by meeting them in person. Also, make sure that you voice any questions or concerns so that you have as few surprises as possible.

What's the appeal of ear gauges/heavy ear jewelry?

I love piercings but will never understand gauges or the huge jewelry meant to stretch your ear down. What's the appeal?

The reason for piercings is to be able to wear jewelry in various places on your body.... not to have holes in your body... the holes are just necessity. At least, that's my reasoning...

I'm not hating on gauges, I just don't really understand them... Anyone mind explaining? What beauty or likable image do you find in gauges?

NOTE: If you're just going to say something like "I don't get them either, they're gross!" don't bother commenting. That doesn't answer my question. I'd like to hear why people chose to get gauges.

It is a good question, but it is hard to answer. When I started stretching (gauging) my earlobes, I didn't originally plan to go really big -- I just knew that I loved the way they look and feel. As I began to stretch larger (this is ten years ago now), I felt empowered because I was taking control over the one thing in the world I have control over: my body. So I continued to stretch over the years, and they eventually reached a huge size: I now can comfortably wear 1 5/8 inch (42mm) jewelry, though I normally wear 1 1/2 inch jewelry in them. I personally love the look of them, and I do get many compliments on them. I completely realize that not everybody likes or appreciates them, and that's perfectly OK. I didn't do it for anybody else but myself.
There are all sorts of things about other people that I don't get (like hair styles, clothing, choice of job, etc.), but I assume that they do it because it makes them happy, or feel better about themselves. This is just like one of those things. We don't have to like everything about everybody, we should just respect others for their choices.
