Kelly Blue Book Names Top 10 Green Cars For 2010
Kelly Blue Book, ultimate authority on all things with four wheels and an engine, has come out with its Top 10 Green Cars for 2010. This list, which includes all mass-market vehicles, scores green cars on the basis of carbon dioxide, fuel economy, safety, and "driving enjoyment". While the "green" rating of a vehicle can be measured many ways, these are the green cars that Kelly Blue Book employees will likely be seen driving.
10 - Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid
The Chevy Tahoe Hybrid is an argument against anyone who calls hybrid weak. This hybrid can tow almost 3 tons with the heavy-duty engine and 22 mpg. While the fuel economy isn't anything exciting, it is 6 mpg more than the non-hybrid Tahoe.
9 - Toyota Highlander Hybrid
The most well-tested hybrid technology, despite problems with recalls, still can be found in Toyotas. The Highlander Hybrid will cozily seat seven and still get 26 mpg. Standard all-wheel drive means a stable ride throughout the entire year.
BMW 335d - #8
Because it is a BMW, the 335d has creature comforts worthy of the BMW name. The 6-cylinder engine runs on diesel, so with 36 mpg highway and 27 mpg overall, the BMW 335d rivals some hybrids for efficiency.
7 - Honda Fit
More fun to drive than other, higher-mpg Honda vehicles, the 31 mpg Honda Fit gets a spot on the list. Environmental credibility doesn't mean that the paddle shifters and powerful oomph aren't fun to drive.
Ford Escape Hybrid : Number 6
At 32 mpg, the Escape Hybrid also has the room of an SUV. Built by SUV specialists at Ford, the Escape has lots of little touches that improve drivability. Parallel parking assistance, integrated blind spot mirrors, and the (perhaps controversial) infotainment system vault it up to number 6.
5 - Mini Cooper
The Mini Cooper is a large part of the Fiat family of vehicles. The gas-powered Mini Cooper is available everywhere, though the Mini E is being tested in a few cities. That is, if you can fit in it.
Volkswagen Golf TDI : Number Four
Volkswagen introduced high-efficiency engines. With huge amounts of low-end torque and 34 mpg, this roomy beauty gives plenty of power to match the fuel economy.
3 - Ford Fusion Hybrid
The rating on the Ford Fusion Hybrid is 39 mpg average. With an LCD gauge cluster that makes car-geeks' hearts go pitter-patter, the Fusion Hybrid also has plenty of mid-size sedan room.
Honda Insight Hybrid : Number Two
A 41 mpg fully loaded Honda Insight comes with a suggested retail price of only $23,810. The Insight Hybrid doesn't ask you to make sacrifices - it just asks you to enjoy the voice-activated navigation, Bluetooth connection, and rocking hot audio system.
Toyota Prius - #1
The grandfather and still champion of hybrid efficiency, the newest Toyota plug-in Prius gets 50 mpg. The gas-assisted engine can go several hundred miles, and solar-powered ventilation gives the hybrid plenty of green credibility.
