Stay Away From Sports Injuries By Using Foot Orthotics

Injuries incurred during sports activities are occurrences that the majority of coaches and athletes are accustomed to.  These conditions can cause physical pain to the athlete, but in many cases can set back the entire team. An injured team member can affect the outcome of games and can have enduring influence on the season as well.  Like a team is affected by a missing member, a hurt body part has a negative impact on the entire body. Lower-leg conditions such as weak knee injuries, shin plints, and twisted ankles can be caused by poor form, lack of stretching, and overuse of the areas below the knees. As reported by medical professionals at the Cleveland Clinic, most athletes suffer from shin splints at one point or another.  Here’s how to avoid and heal these painful problems, as well as averting other frequent sports injuries.

How Sports Can Cause Shin Splints to Occur

There are many symptoms caused by shin splints such as pain running through the front or sides of the calf and shin areas. This pain can be sharp and extreme, especially when putting pressure on the affected leg.  Swelling in the area can make the leg feel tight as well as make puffiness visible around the muscles.  No matter what type of sport, from soccer to baseball any athlete can suffer from these conditions.  It is important that  shin pain treatment be sought immediately so that proper physical therapy and anti-inflammatory drugs can be started.  The most common shin pain treatment started by physical therapists includes rest, elevation, and icing of the painful area for 1 - 2 days. Continuing physical therapy and preventative exercises include calf and ankle strengthening moves and stretching of the Achilles tendon and the front leg muscles that surround the shin bone.

Twisting Injuries: How Weak Muscles Affect the Tendons and Ligaments

Twisting injuries are also commonly seen in impact-type sports. This is caused by either a blunt-force injury, which cannot be avoided, or from weak muscles of the lower leg, knee, and ankle.  Weak muscles can be strengthened with weight bearing or movements recommended by a sports therapist that target the muscular areas that support the knees and ankles. Damaged muscles lead to tendons and ligaments that cannot hold the bones and muscles together tightly so that simple movements or motions can cause twisting injuries. Another preventive measure for preventing these types of injuries are to be sure the feet have proper arch support.  This can be accomplished specially-designed arch support inserts made for sports activities. The physicians at the Cleveland Clinic also suggest taping the arch for added arch support during games.

How Tearing Injuries Happen

Tearing of the connective tissues are also typical kinds of sports-related injuries. This is most often found in the connecting structures of the knees and back of the heels. An Achilles injury is usually due to poor flexibility in the heel tendon due to improper stretching form. This is a crucial stage in the preparation procedure that cannot be overlooked. Gentle stretches without much force are suggested for anyone about to exercise. Experts in kinesiology advise a half-minute stretch followed by a short rest and then a repeat stretch. ACL (Anterior cruciate ligaments) are found in the knee and help hold the knee structure together. Injuries to this part of the body can be averted by strengthening the knee and lower leg through curls and extensions of the leg.  The right foot orthotics can help avert both of these styles of injuries by supplying proper arch support, foot alignment, and cushioning.

How do car makers make cars to have the front lower and the rear higher?

Do they put some kinda lifter on the chasis? That have always made me wonder how they do it on the sportier cars.

This all varies in method, but there are some really rather simple ways to do this...

Normally this is done by actually lowering the ride height of the front end of the car significantly more than the back, as this will "improve" handling, by lowering the centre of gravity and normally stiffening the springs, this is normally the best way to do it... however the car is more likely to ground when going near ramps..

Another way (and this is more accidental than planned) is to increase the size, and therefore weight, of the engine, making the front end ride lower and moving the balance to the front wheels. This is generally not a good way of goind about things as the increased weight in the front can have serious implications to the handling and braking of the vehicle (with more weight at the front under braking the rear wheels are more likely to lock up and the car spin).

Actually the shocks (shock absorbers) have no affect on the ride height of the car as their job is solely to stop the car from "bouncing" on it's springs. It is the springs that determine the ride height of a car.. you can buy kits that put extra springs on a car (to shorten them and make them stiffer) that will give you the lowering effect.
