Why is 'Solid capacitors on CPU VRM' a selling feature on Motherboards?
Why is it a good thing (or not) when motherboard spec sheets state "Solid capacitors on CPU VRM"? I understand that VRM refers to a (step-down) voltage regulator but what's so good about using "solid capacitors"? Is the alternative surface-mount versions? What are the (dis-)advantages of each? Thanks.
Solid and ceramic capacitors don't leak like standard ones.
Another selling point is them being made in Japan. This is not bogus because japanese accumulators, batteries and capacitors are the highest quality in the world
(due to them spending effectively trillions of yens for decades on researching how to make them more effective) and easily hold more charge than cheap chinese knockoffs etc., they have lower failure percentages and so on)
Note that motherboards with solid caps or ones made in Japan will cost $50-$100 more than normal motherboards.
