None is better than the other, just based on the drive mechanism. It all depends on what feels best to you.
I prefer the chain drives as I feel it gives me the most natural motion and action, plus I like the control I get with it. I can also adjust it higher or lower as I like. The same can be said for the strap drives.
Probably the only real disadvantage of the direct drive is that it can not be easily or quickly adjusted, but some prefer the feel and response of it.
